Hello! I’m Max Seider – eater of food, bike-junkie, puppy aficionado, dietetic intern, and that is just the tip of the iceberg!
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT FOOD AND NUTRITION?
I went on a very twisty-turny path to get to where I am career-wise. It all started shortly after leaving the womb… okay so maybe a few years after… all I wanted was to eat the cookie dough/lick the batter, my mother (who I now thank profusely) would not let me have any unless I helped. Well, let me tell you, that is all the motivation I needed. Fast forward a few years to high school. I was super nerdy and had not quite embraced my lovely self, but really found my niche in food. Okay, fast forward even more. Undergraduate degree number 1. Wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted in a career, but I liked food so nutritional sciences made a lot of sense. I enjoyed it so much I went on to study nutrition and health in a Master’s of Science degree. Worked in diabetes and pregnancy research and knew I wanted to learn how to counsel so I went to Ryerson University to get another undergrad (crazy, I know) so that I could apply to become a Registered Dietitian.
So did I get it?
Oh yea! I am so fortunate to be a Dietetic Intern at Sunnybrook hospital! So when I’m not creating recipes and writing content for here I am studying to become a registered dietitian! If you can’t tell by all the exclamation marks, I’m pretty excited about this.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
SO WHAT DOES THIS BLOG OFFER?
I’m a self-taught cook and try to eat primarily plant-based. All the recipes on this site are vegan and I’ve tried to include gluten free (so our celiac diseased friends can get in on the yummy food action) options too. You’ll notice any meals I try to make as balanced as possible and follow the plate method (well the plate part, less so the fruit and dairy alternative). This is somewhat in part to my own eating habits and partially due to my years working in diabetes research and care. When possible, I’ll offer nut-free or gluten-free options so everyone can take part in the eating, because let’s face it, food is delicious.
MAX, DO YOU DO ANYTHING FOR FUN?
C’mon, fun is my middle name (I don’t have one, so maybe it could be?!). Besides food and nutrition and science and cooking are SO FUN! Oh. You mean aside from that? Sure do! I have a love affair with cycling (really, I do). In the summer you can find me cycling with the super-awesome bike club I joined on the roads most weekends and having a solid rip on the mountain bike trails. Winter I hibernate. Just kidding (well maybe), I like to lift heavy-ish weights at the gym, train for cycling (aka sitting on my stationary bike sweating like a fiend) and rock climb indoors. I also have a dog, Chuck, who is awesome. We go for walks, play with toys, do tricks, and cuddle. It’s pretty great.
